There are many ways of reaching the city centre of Malaga from the fourth busiest airport in Spain, the Malaga-Costa del Sol airport, also known as Pablo Picasso Airport (IATA code: AGP). The airport is located 7 km far from the Alameda Principal in Malaga, the main road of Malaga city centre, where all the buses stop, which connects with the rest of the city.
There are various ways to get to the city centre of the capital of Costa del Sol from the airport (and the other way round). Keep reading to find them out!
How to get to Malaga by train
The cheapest way to get to Malaga from the airport is definitely by train. The Cercanías RENFE Airport station is located right in front of the Arrivals hall of the airport of Malaga. Go there, and buy your ticket for train C1, which will lead you to the Malaga María Zambrano train station in the shortest amount of time (less than 10 minutes). The train passes every 20 minutes, and it costs €1.80/person.
You can also choose to jump off the C1 in the city centre of Malaga, at the stop “Malaga Centro-Alameda”, since the same ticket also takes you there.
How to get to Malaga by bus
The bus line “A” takes you directly from the Malaga Airport Arrivals to the city centre and the other way round every 20/25 minutes, from 7 am to midnight if you leave the airport to reach the city. In case you need to catch the “A” to get to the airport, the first fare leaves at 6.25 am and the last one at 11.30 pm.
- From the airport: 00.45 am, 2 am, 5.05 am and 6.30 am
- From the city centre: 12 am, 1.30 am, 4.25 am and 5.45 am.
The complete itinerary takes from 20 minutes to half an hour (depending on the traffic) to reach the last stop of the Paseo del Parque, Plaza del General Torrijos, right in front of the bullring “La Malagueta”, and it costs €4/person, which you will have to pay directly to the driver. Note that no EMT cards work on this bus. Therefore, you will have to pay the same amount of money, even though you have the EMT card.
The bus also stops in Calle Larios, the main street of the city centre, and at Malaga María Zambrano train and bus station.
How to get to Malaga by taxi
You can choose to comfortably get to the city centre of Malaga from the airport by taxi.
Getting a taxi is the most expensive way to reach Malaga city centre. However, if you have a lot of luggage, or if it’s raining cats and dogs (something extraordinary in the capital of the Costa del Sol!), it is also the fastest and easiest way. The price for the transportation from the airport has recently been fixed to €16,50 during the day, and €20 at night, regardless of the destination.
How to get to Malaga by car
If you fancy the experience of driving in Andalucia, you can rent a car right in front of the Arrivals hall of the airport, since many companies offer their services or even have their office here.
Or if you prefer to get to Malaga knowing that you already have a car booked, select the dates and the time when you would like your vehicle to be there waiting for you and find the price that fits your needs at best.
